Short Bus

16 Dec

I have a miniature dachshund that I love more than someone should probably love a dog. Her name is Poppy and she was a graduation gift to myself (with a little help from my parents).

She is ornery. I came upstairs this morning to find her sitting on the couch, looking up at me with her big brown eyes and white fuzz around her mouth. She had spent the ten minutes it took me to get dressed obliterating the pom pom on the Christmas tree skirt. Needless to say, the gifts this year are going to have to be closely watched because someone may be getting a half eaten, mangled package with a label that reads “From: The 11 pound spaz that steals your socks and hides them behind the couch. With love.”.

She’s also really cute. She likes to be little spoon when she snuggles with people. And she always looks a little lost and disheveled thanks to her Don King like tufts of hair on top of her head. She’s almost a year old and she already has gray hair. Every time you have a dog treat, she will run in these tiny circles and then stop suddenly to stare at you. This is a trick that she just started doing one day about a month ago and now we call it “The Poppy Dance.”

She may be a pain sometimes but she is a part of the fam.

This picture was taken right after I got her. The hair hadn’t yet dominate her head.
